Day 5
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Scripture Reading(ESV)
9Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.
10For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
11Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone?
12And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him — a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Today's Reflection
Solomon reminds us that we were created for community, not isolation. The imagery is powerful—two people can accomplish more together, can help each other when one falls, can provide warmth and protection that solitude cannot offer. This passage celebrates the strength found in unity and partnership. Whether in marriage, friendship, or family relationships, we discover that vulnerability and interdependence aren't weaknesses but sources of resilience. The 'threefold cord' that is not easily broken suggests that the strongest relationships include God as the third strand. When Christ is at the center of our relationships, we find a stability and strength that human connection alone cannot provide. Today, consider how you might move toward deeper community rather than self-reliance. Where has isolation left you vulnerable? How might God be calling you to both offer support and receive it from others?
Reflect
How might you strengthen the 'threefold cord' in your most important relationships by including God more intentionally?
