Day 10

James 1:19-21

Scripture Reading(ESV)

19Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

20for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

21Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Today's Reflection

James offers practical wisdom for healthy communication—be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. This simple formula can transform our relationships. Being 'quick to listen' means we prioritize understanding others before seeking to be understood. We listen not just to words but to hearts, seeking to comprehend not just what someone is saying but what they're feeling and needing. Being 'slow to speak' protects us from reactive words we might later regret. It creates space for wisdom and thoughtfulness. Being 'slow to anger' doesn't mean we never feel frustrated or disappointed, but that we don't let these emotions drive our responses. James reminds us that human anger doesn't produce God's righteousness. Instead, we can receive God's 'implanted word' with meekness—allowing His truth to shape our responses rather than our immediate emotions. This creates relationships built on understanding, wisdom, and grace rather than reactivity and offense.
