Day 3

Philippians 4:6-9

Scripture Reading(ESV)

6do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

7And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me — practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Today's Reflection

Paul writes these words about peace from a Roman prison, making his counsel profoundly authentic. Instead of anxiety, he prescribes prayer with thanksgiving—not because our circumstances are always thankful, but because our God is always faithful. The 'peace of God' that follows isn't the absence of conflict but the presence of God's shalom—His wholeness and well-being that transcends human understanding. This peace literally 'guards' our hearts and minds like a military sentinel. Paul then shifts our focus to what we dwell upon: whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. This isn't positive thinking but purposeful thinking—choosing to align our minds with God's character and promises. Having established God's presence (Day 1) and love (Day 2), we now discover His peace that guards our inner world. Your challenges may be unchanged today, but your perspective can be transformed. The God who met you in your refuge and assured you of His love now offers His supernatural peace to calm your anxious heart.
